Who are we?


The 'Assoċjazzjoni ta' l-Organizzazzjonijiet mhux Governattivi Għawdxin' was officially launched on 1st August 2003 when the draft Statute was approved and the first Council elected. This was in the presence of high Gozo Ministry officials and with the active participation of the Minister for Gozo Hon Giovanna Debono, on whose initiative this project developed. Membership in this umbrella Association is open to all organizations based in Gozo (of which there are hundreds) which:

  • strive to strengthen the social fabric in Gozong
  • are independent from direct government control
  • are not profit-making and
  • are not affiliated with any political party.

Helping handThe Association's primary aim is to promote cooperation among non-governmental organizations and to promote their interests. According to the Association's Statute, the Council shall - among other responsibilities -

  • act as a coordinating entity
  • provide communication and a discussion forum between NGOs
  • strive to provide means to promote activities in Gozo
  • maintain a database with relevant information
  • procure facilities and
  • advise

encouraging participation and striving to draw up a social development plan.

The Council is elected by the Annual General Meeting but councillors may also be co-opted to have as wide a representation as possible of the Groups:

  • Culture (eg choirs, bands, hobbies, the stage, the arts)
  • Philanthropy (NGOs offering help to those with temporary or permanent needs, including social problems and physical and mental illnesses; as well as education)
  • Sports (team and individual).

The Association represents NGOs on the Regional Project Committee, as a core member.

The Association has the resources of the NGO Centre, Il-Madonna tar-Rummiena Road, Xewkija at its disposal and so this is its registered address.

Member NGOs can use the services of the NGO Centre in Triq il-Madonna tar-Rummiena in Xewkija, open twelve hours a day (Monday to Friday – 8am to 8 pm; Saturdays – morning only; Sundays – by arrangement). Facilities include:

  • hall and other rooms
  • equipment (projector, DVD player, video player, monitor,  computers, printer)
  • photocopying (free or nominal charge).

Besides having the possibility of publicizing their activities through this Website, member NGOs can also be helped in promotion through use of community radios and periodicals.

The Association Council administers the annual “Grants” scheme on behalf of the Gozo Ministry.

The Council also acts as a pressure group on behalf of the general sector or of particular categories.

Any NGO wishing to join the Gozo NGOs Association will need to complete a membership form and submit it by email and send the membership fee by post. The same form should be used for annual renewals or updating.

There are two versions of our form:

Electronic Form

This is a downloadable form in Word for Windows format. It can be downloaded from this page (see below) or via the menu. the form should be saved on your PC. It can be filled in electronically and saved. A copy can then be emailed to us directly. Payments should be posted to us. The advantage of this method is twofold: we have a clear electronic copy of your details; and you can update your details with us any time by simply amending your copy of the form and emailing it.
